Almost twenty years ago my husband and I had this idea of taking milk from our herd of cows and transforming it into cheese. We didn't have a roadmap, and neither does most of the food and farm community trying to turn a family operation into a real business. This talk follows the honest story of how that idea became an award-winning product sold in restaurants and farmers markets across Ohio, the mistakes that almost sank it, and what nearly two decades in Ohio's local food and agri-business community, including serving as President of the Ohio Cheese Guild, has taught me about what it actually takes to build something food-based from the ground up. I also write From Scratch, a weekly column in the Logan County Chronicle about growing, cooking, and preserving real food.

I remember what it was like to feel like I was drowning in one season, before I could see it would ever get easier. Now, as a mom of three, stepmom to six, and grandma to twenty-one in one blended family, and for nearly two decades I've also been building an award-winning creamery with my husband. I've learned how to carry a full life without losing myself in it, and this talk hands women the same framework I use: FLOURISH, a practical way to decide what actually deserves their attention and start leading their own life instead of just reacting to it.
